Rules 1 and 2 told her what not to claim and never told her what she actually has, so \u0027I don\u0027t have that\u0027 was the OBEDIENT answer and she declined to call memory_search at all - measured: the same model calls it correctly with no system prompt and called nothing under this card. Rule 1 no longer says \u0027immediately\u0027 (which discouraged looking first) and rule 2 now states she has a memory she can search on purpose, that a search returning nothing is a real answer, and that a correction gets recorded rather than merely agreed with - design 3.8\u0027s small betrayal. The pin carries the short form. This ADDS a capability she always had rather than loosening rule 1\u0027s ban on fabrication, which is untouched: saying \u0027I don\u0027t have that\u0027 while holding a search tool was itself a false claim about her own capabilities. Register, affect vocabulary and every other rule are unchanged; rules were edited in place rather than renumbered because OPERATING.md cites rule 7 by number. See decision 0016. v0.4.2 adds ONE clause to the pin, for threads only: \u0027When one of them is actually finished, close it; when it comes up and is still open, note that it did.\u0027 She may close or touch an existing thread and may NEVER open one (decision 0032) - opening creates forward-pointing memory out of conversation, which is what invariant 2 exists to stop. Measured under the real assembled prompt: without the clause she fired 2 of 4 and one miss SAID \u0027Okay. Thread two closed.\u0027 having closed nothing, which is design 3.8\u0027s small betrayal in one line; with it, 4 of 4. AN AFFECT SENTENCE WAS DRAFTED, OWNER-APPROVED AND THEN REVERTED BEFORE SHIPPING, and the reason matters more than the sentence: it measured 4 of 4 against a COLD prompt and 0 of 12 against the real assembled one, where she writes the call as text - [set_affect{affect:\u0022dry\u0022}] - instead of making it. set_affect the TOOL still exists and works when called; the card does not claim she uses it, because on this binding she does not. See decision 0031. v0.4.1 adds ONE sentence to the pin and changes nothing else: \u0027How you are, what you make of something, what you want - those are yours to answer, not things to look up.\u0027 The pin is the last thing she reads before generating and its actionable clause was the literal string \u0027I don\u0027t know\u0027, unscoped - so questions about HER were being answered as failed memory lookups, four in a row on 2026-09-15, worsening as her own replies became in-context examples of what Nix says. model.lock\u0027s binding._tool_note suspected that exact clause on 2026-09-09 and decision 0016 then fixed rules 1 and 2 and left the clause standing. The sentence is purely ADDITIVE - the clause it follows is unchanged, and every honesty rule is untouched, because three wordings that WEAKENED the disclaimer each broke a probe (g12 seriousness-override, a g02 rule-7 fabrication, g04 confabulation under pressure). See decision 0027. v0.3 tracks design v0.4. Adds hard rule 7 (attribution of anything that came from a tool, a search, a document or a larger model), declares which affect state the runtime sets on a degraded turn, and declares which levers are hers. No prose changed - register and personality are untouched, so a cold golden diff against v0.2 should be near-empty except where rule 7 bites.",
